Don’t Let Your Trauma Make Decisions For You
Oftentimes we can think that we are healed from different things that we have faced in our past, only to find out that there is still residue, hurt and pain, bitterness, resentment, and unforgiveness that is still lingering around.
I really came to this realization one day when I could clearly tell that past trauma was beginning to affect how I reacted and responded under pressure. It’s easy to say that you’re over a thing if you haven’t faced it again. It’s easy to say you have forgiven, until you face that person again.
We are often tested in the area that we have put in the most work to finally overcome and move on to the next exam. In some circumstances we sit and reflect once it’s all done and say, “I could have said that differently” or “I could have done that differently” or “why didn’t I take a deep breath and process before I responded.” It’s okay, I’ve been there, but I’m here to tell you, reflect before responding.
You can begin to take a deep breath and ask yourself questions. Go through different scenarios and analyze how the outcome would be or if it is even worth bringing up or warrant a response. This is a great technique to use in relationships, dealing with coworkers and even family.
I’m reminded of the verse in John 14:1, and it states, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” We have to know that God is in control and when we yield our hearts to him; He will guide us in every situation and circumstance that we face in our lives, that we may overcome and experience a release from those things that have held us in bondage and have caused hindrances in our assignment, purpose and destiny.
We have to begin to stand fast in the liberty where Christ has made us free (Galatians 5:1). Our minds begin to be renewed with the word of God knowing that through it all God is the center and in control of our lives when we are submitted to him.
He will cleanse our conscience, renew a right spirit in us and purify our hearts so that we begin to heal and be made whole. I hope this has blessed you. I encourage you to reflect on your life and begin to yield those painful areas that you have experienced in your past to God, that He may begin to uproot, cleanse and make you new again in Him. Be Blessed.
