Let’s talk about what true growth really looks like, especially for us as mothers walking with Christ.
Spiritual growth is not a one-time event. It’s a continuous journey of faith development, character refinement, and Christlike transformation. It includes essential pillars like:
- Spiritual maturity
- Ongoing development
- Fruitfulness in your walk with God
- Daily transformation through faith
This path is not linear, and that’s okay. Growth in Christ is a daily, grace-filled process.
The Ongoing Growth of Motherhood
As women and mothers, we are constantly evolving. Just as our children grow in stages, we grow alongside them learning, stretching, and maturing in ways we never imagined.
I remember when my son was a toddler, he loved vegetables of all kinds: broccoli, green beans, corn, carrots, you name it. Now? Not so much. His preferences have changed, and I had to pivot with him. It made me realize: growth requires observation, flexibility, and wisdom.
If I continued cooking vegetables he no longer enjoys, he’d miss out on valuable nutrients. But by paying attention and adapting, I can still give him what he needs, even if it looks different than before. That’s growth.
Feeling Stuck? Here’s What to Do
There are seasons in life when we feel boxed in, unsure of what’s next or how to move forward. When that happens, I’m reminded of Jeremiah 6:16:
“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”
If you’re feeling unclear or overwhelmed, take a pause.
Step 1: Pause & Seek God’s Wisdom
- Breathe. Pray. Journal. Create space to hear from God.
- Ask Him: “What’s my next step?” and “Where do You want me to grow?”
- Trust His ancient paths, they lead to rest and purpose.
Faith Requires Action
Spiritual growth isn’t just about prayer, it’s also about implementation. Are you writing down your vision? Setting goals? Practicing discipline and consistency?
Step 2: Write the Vision
- Create a faith-centered action plan.
- Set stretch goals that push you beyond your comfort zone.
- Keep it simple: start with one thing you can implement today.
Growth is a mix of prayer, planning, and putting in the work. Faith without action is incomplete.
Creating Intentional Routines at Home
Let’s be honest, when we’re busy working or managing a household, the iPad or TV often becomes a babysitter. But here’s what I realized: screen time is not always serving our children’s growth, especially before bedtime.
I had to make a shift. Even if it meant sitting with my laptop while my son does an educational activity, or being intentional about unplugged, screen-free time before bed.
Step 3: Build a Consistent Routine
- Commit to no screens one hour before bed.
- Replace screen time with a calming activity (coloring, puzzles, reading).
- Ensure your child gets the recommended 9–12 hours of sleep for their age.
These small, intentional choices make a big difference.
Your Influence Matters
Our routines, habits, and energy directly impact our children. That’s why it’s so important to parent from a place of overflow not burnout.
Step 4: Create a Morning & Night Routine (Just Start with One!)
- Morning routine ideas: Devotional, 10 minutes of prayer, journaling, stretching.
- Evening routine ideas: Family prayer, no screens, reading with your child.
- You don’t need to do everything. Just pick one step to begin today.
Ask God for wisdom and strength. You are not meant to do this alone. Growth begins with one decision, one prayer, one routine.
Final Encouragement
You are growing even when you don’t see it. You are sowing seeds in your family, in your spirit, and in your faith walk. Don’t despise the small beginnings or quiet days. Your intentional efforts are building a strong foundation for you and your children.
Take Action Today:
