Let’s chat about loving yourself. Loving yourself is not just about how you look and appear on the outside. It is about the inner dialogue you have with yourself daily.
Loving yourself is realizing that who you are at your core is unique and beautiful. God took His time creating you and everything about you is made with purpose.
I realize that oftentimes we can get into relationships or different circumstances that try to chip away at us. The scary thing about this is you don’t notice nicks and tears in the foundation right away, it is usually when you see a big gap in your foundation.
A lot of this can come from pleasing people, putting someone else’s needs before your own needs, saying yes to things that you know you truly don’t want to do, and bending your will to satisfy someone else’s. All these things can take a toll on your mental health.
I have reflected on this a lot in the past couple of weeks. It is important to hold your peace and love yourself in the process. When you realize that some things come to you as a distraction or with intent to provoke you, don’t engage. The whole intent of the interaction is to get an emotional response from you, and when you are responding with emotion you are not regulated and operating in your authenticity.
It is not easy in situations to decide in the moment to walk away or not respond, but the more you allow God to pour into you and stand firm in Him; you will realize that it is more important to cultivate and maintain a quiet and calm spirit, that you protect your peace and guard your heart.
You have to ask yourself in these moments, what do you need to feel safe? Wait for the response to come. When you let go of the outcome and rest in God, you will find such peace in Him. Knowing that He is fighting your battles and he has already gone ahead of you.
When you have a relationship with God; He will lead you on that path of discretion and insight. You will gain His understanding in the situations that you may encounter. You have to also remember who you are in Him. A royal priesthood ( 1 Peter 2:9). Stand in that, and be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might (Ephesians 6:11). The battle is not yours.
There are days and times where you may feel that rise in your nervous system or you feel the impulse to tell someone about themselves or maybe the kiddos are having one of those days where you feel you are repeating yourself over and over again.
You are not alone, but you have to Trust that you are in God’s hands and He has everything in His control.
Take time to do something that you enjoy. Is it a 30 minute meditation and study of God’s word? Is it prayer or journaling? Is it going for a drive and grabbing your favorite coffee. In that moment ask yourself what you need and shift your focus on pouring back into you.
God has given us this precious gift of life. Enjoy every moment of it and value the peace that comes from God and decide to choose it and joy every day. Be blessed.
