I’ve noticed when I begin to focus on something that is not productive or the what ifs or trying to change something that has already happened it is just a spiral in the wrong direction. It’s almost as if you begin to formulate scenarios that never happened, filling in the gaps with assumptions instead of facts which leads to idle time. That time could be spent on your growth, whether that be spiritual, mental, or physical. Ask yourself, what can I use this mental space for and how can I productively use my time? It’s time to regain focus.
I want to share some practical tips that have helped me to regain focus on what matters and what produces good fruit.
Forgiveness
One that has been very beneficial to me is practicing forgiveness. I know that this may not be an easy task, but it is a necessary one. When we forgive those who have wronged us in any way, when we begin to experience that freedom in our mind and in our hearts. Forgiveness is not for the other person, it is for you and the soundness of your mind. You also have to forgive yourself, and really mean it and make the conscious decision to move forward in love.
Prayer and Meditation
Next, is to cultivate intimacy with God through prayer and meditation. This has been such an important thing for me. God knows all about your traumas, your disappointments, the let-downs, the things you are tussling with in your soul. He is waiting for you to call out to him, to talk to him and get understanding. Even if it may be a particular person you are holding on to in your soul, you can pray for them and ask that God gives them guidance and a heart to see and examine themselves to come in right standing.
Serve Others and Community
Another helpful practice is to serve in your community or do something for someone in need. There is such a relief that comes with your help and serving others even if you are not feeling your best or you may be going through the very situation the person you are helping is enduring. However, being there for them will bring such joy to you that you realize that you are not alone and you are not the only one that may be facing challenges or difficulties in certain areas on your journey.

Fellowship with like-minded individuals is also beneficial. Ensuring that you are allowing yourself to be poured into, uplifted and encouraged is crucial. Self-care is one thing, but also conversing with other believers and like-minded individuals is very refreshing. You wouldn’t believe how important it is to steward over and cultivate healthy relationships. It is a necessity. As humans, we need that sense of community and relationships. It’s great to make sure you are available to experience fellowship with others and also be poured into and encouraged.
Aligning Thoughts
Aligning your thoughts to what you want to accomplish is very helpful. Focus your energy on your goals and your vision, nurturing your creativity and making progress in the goals that you set to accomplish. Sometimes things come as a distraction and before you know it; you haven’t accomplished anything you said you were going to do. When you decide and hold yourself accountable on how you use your mental space and what you spend your time on you will begin to see tangible results in your life. So I hope that this has encouraged your journey.
