I know that you have probably heard, “you have to take care of yourself,” so many times. I have to, but recently I was on a therapy called and as I begin to speak on all the things that I do in a day and a realization was how am I filling back up my cup at the end of the day. Each person rather male or female has core needs, that could be feeling safe, loved, a sense of belonging, security, confidence or growth.
I do believe that despite our busy schedules and all that we give out to the world and the people connected with us; we have to find time to pour back into ourselves.
There are many different ways to fill your cup at the end of the day. I have listed just a few that have been extremely helpful for me.
1. Meditating on God’s promises for your life is a great way to reset and renew your mind. God is our source, and our Father, he knows the deepest things of our heart. In Romans 15:13, it states, “Now the God of hope fills you with all joy and peace in believing that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” God will give us His strength and empower our inner man to do the things that are required of us each day. Understand that God will fill you back up as you serve your family, your ministry, your businesses.
2. I have found that taking intentional time to walk or sit in nature has helped me unwind and experience calmness really taking in God’s beautiful creation. Letting the wind blow against my hair, hearing the birds chirp and looking at the beautiful trees and flowers is so refreshing. It also gets your body moving and improves your mood.
3. As humans we do need a sense of belonging and community and ways that we can work through things that maybe we can not express to just anyone. I’ve found that speaking to a therapist to work through deep rooted issues and traumas has been extremely helpful to offload things that carry heavy weight. When you are weighed down with different experiences, hurts, and pains even though you function through your day, that gunk is still there when you lay down at night. If you are not quite open to a therapist; you can also start journaling in the morning and at night. I have a great meditation journal to get you started; I’ll link it here: https://amzn.to/3WEBuZ6
4. Taking time for self care, rather than doing your favorite hobbies, booking a facial or spa day, getting your favorite bubble bath items, exercising, drawing, dancing, or listening to music. Whatever that thing is, set aside time for yourself to do that thing.
