Life has a way of revealing things you never expected. One moment, you believe you are on the right path. You feel like you are succeeding, moving forward, and finally seeing things come together. Then, suddenly, it can feel as though everything is snatched from underneath you.
You begin questioning your identity, your path, your assignment, your location, and every decision you have ever made. And the truth is, it hurts.
When the Unknown Makes You Want to Grip Harder
If you are overcoming perfectionism, it is easy to feel like you need to grip even harder during a season of transition. The unknown is uncomfortable. Uncertainty is scary. You want to know the day, the time, the moment, the location, every detail, all at once.
But the Word of God reminds us that His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts. We are also told to be still, even in the most difficult moments.
And if I am honest, sometimes I want to ask, “Be still and do what? Wait for what? What am I supposed to do while nothing makes sense?”
But I am learning that being still does not mean being idle. It means moving with intentionality and obedience, even when you cannot see the entire plan.
Obedience Often Comes Before Clarity
When God told Abraham to leave his father’s house and go to a place He would show him, Abraham did not know where he was going. He simply trusted God enough to move. He acted from a place of obedience, believing that God would not fail him.
There are seasons when God is growing and developing us, and those seasons require deep faith. They push us to release what is familiar, draw closer to God, listen carefully, and become clear about what we truly want, not what other people want for us.
They also teach us to make decisions from discernment rather than financial pressure, fear, or the urgency of our circumstances.
Active Waiting Is Still Faithful Movement
It is hard. There are days when I want to cry. There are days when I want to curl up under a blanket, eat sushi and fries, and hope the pain goes away.
But I remind myself that I am actively waiting on the promise. I can pour into myself. I can journal it out, pray, spend quality time with the people who truly have my back, explore the places I have been putting off, declutter, clean, and get outside.
I do not have to stay stuck or stagnant. I can live as though what God promised is already being worked out for me. Every healthy, obedient step I take is a step of faith.
Let This Season Reveal What Needs Your Attention
What if this circumstance is not here to destroy you, but to shine a light on the places you have neglected? What if this season is inviting you to care for yourself, return to God, and rediscover the path you were always created to walk?
Today, I encourage you not to let your circumstances send you into a spiral. Pause. Be still. Listen. Then take the next faithful step.
You may not know every detail, but you do not have to. Let God lead you. Trust that obedience is not wasted, intentional waiting is not inactivity, and the path ahead will unfold one step at a time.
What is one intentional step God may be asking you to take in this season?
