Healing from Within: Start Loving Yourself Again

Let’s chat about healing from within. The last month or so has been a stretching time for me. I’m sure I’m not the only one. It is as if God picked up my tree and shook all the nests, cobwebs and debris out so that I could really start flourishing, and did it hurt!

However, sometimes healing from within starts like that. We have suppressed things, overlooked, and neglected parts of us, and we just become comfortable with it. Oftentimes, God will shake things up when it’s time for you to step up and really bloom.

It could be a toxic relationship you are holding on to because you don’t believe there is someone better out there. Or maybe a toxic job culture, or you are procrastinating on a move you were supposed to make two years ago. Whatever it is, God will make you uncomfortable to push you out of stagnation and into growth. I think about it like this, when you think about sitting water, it collects, smells and attracts mosquitoes because it is not moving, but when you are flowing like a current, you are moving to the point that things that will try to land or attach it self won’t be able to do so, unless it is meant to go the same place you are going.

Understanding Your Body and Mind Connection:

Have you ever worked out, and you’re like I really didn’t feel this workout today? I’ve been there, however, I learned when you focus your mind on the movement of the muscle at a steady and slow pace you will feel the contraction because you are making mind to muscle connection. That is the same for your body, what you focus on will grow. It is important that your heart, which is your mind, will and emotion is focused on the right places.

When you are on autopilot, it is as if you are running on a program, you don’t have to be really present or self aware and a lot of things go unnoticed. I had that moment in June where I was so stressed dealing with a situation that was very emotionally draining, and I finally went to get my hair done only to hear the stylist say, you have a bald spot right here, in other words a stress spot. I felt so numb because I knew exactly where it was from and I realized that now I really have to be intentional

Being intentional is researching nutritious foods for healthy hair, it’s finding workouts that fit in your schedule, it is getting enough rest and planning a hair care routine and styling for your work week. Yes, it’s work! You may be saying ugh more stuff to add on the already busy routine of working and raising kids. Exactly. That is what it will take. Trust when you are a good steward over what God has given you, even your hair, He will provide the support, resources and help.

Nourishing You

That takes me to what it takes for your heart. I know that when people leave and project all the things they did on you it hurts. Let’s say you were supportive, but they project their lack of support and tell you they didn’t get what they needed. You literally have to let those words fall to the ground. Why? Because you know your truth. If you know in your heart you were supportive, you sit with that with God and you release the need to be baited back into an emotional roller coaster trying to prove yourself and earn someone’s love who is not even deserving of your time or energy because love is given. We love because God first loved us by giving His only son. Yes He gave, He didn’t say we had to earn Him. That’s grace.

So know and recognize that you are already loved, and love yourself. Do you know what brings you joy each day? Do you remember the last time you bought yourself flowers or took yourself on a date? These things matter because it starts with you. It starts with you taking the intention time to reflect, release and heal and begin to take steps to discover who you are outside of the toxic mess that tried to distract you from your path.

Create Space for Healing

I begin to take steps towards things I enjoy even if it is uncomfortable. One of those things was taking a dance class. I have really been enjoying it. It is amazing the feeling you get when you are around people who are enjoying life, supportive, and happy. It has been great, and being out in nature, gardening and watching my flowers grow. All these things matter. It only takes you making one step and letting the momentum flow. There are things that you enjoy that you have just laid to the side because of work-life and household responsibilities, find those things again.

I pray that this has been an encouragement to you today, you can watch the full video here. Be Blessed.
