The Importance of Having Sound Counsel in Your Life
Wise Counsel is advice or guidance that is trustworthy and reliable, and that helps people seek God’s best for their lives.
Look At The Bigger Picture – Don’t Be Bias
Having wise counsel in your life helps you to look outside of yourself and to look at the bigger picture. Oftentimes we can be very bias to our situation and seek out others that WE know will take sides with us or be a YES man or woman and not really give that tough love. When you have a trusted source sent by God, they are able to give you a different perspective because they are seeing the situation or circumstance as a whole. They can also intercede on your behalf, encourage you and check in on you with tangible support and accountability. We were not created to walk alone, remember that!
There Has To Be Intentionality – Be Discerning
Always pray concerning who you seek guidance from. You have to be discerning, being able to see through the lens of God to discern the “fruit of the tree” so to speak. If someone is not doing well in an area or has not shown evidence of overcoming that they now can release grace to you. Pay attention to that. When and if you are praying for counsel or support ensure that you pray that they have a heart devoted to God, that they are not self-seeking or looking to only gain for themselves. That they honor God in their task, guidance and help towards you and that God has established them and they are a trusted source of Heaven and have your best interest at heart.
Make A Plan and Execute – A Goal Not Written Is Just An Idea
When it comes to receiving counsel; you want to ensure that you are being transparent. That you make time for yourself to write out areas that you want to improve on, your strengths, your weaknesses and outline goals that you hope to accomplish during this time. You also want to keep a track record of your progress on how you are improving and your pain points.
Take Heed and Effectively Communicate – Slow to Speak, Quick to Listen
I know at times we want to be right in the way we feel, but it is important to listen to a different perspective because you may learn something very valuable. Listen to the advice and guidance you are receiving and take hold of it and see how you can apply it in your life. It is easy to think you have it all together and you don’t need help, but everyone needs help at some point in their life.
Wise counsel is such a gift and everyone may not have the accessibility to it. God always sends a person with an answer for you. We all need encouragement, support, and guidance. I pray that this has been helpful to you. Be Blessed!
