Awake and Shake The Dust Off
This weekend was something else. One morning I woke up with such pressing thoughts that just seemed to run through my mind the whole day. I wondered what it was that had me in such a sad state of mind. I really didn’t want to do anything, but lay around and cry.
I realized that it was only a distraction. You have to know when things begin to align in your life, when you start to get into a flow. There are circumstances that will try to pull you back into an old state of mind. Sometimes you can even do it to yourself.
I was laying on the bed and it impressed upon my spirit to awake and shake off the dust. I literally imagine God pulling me out of dirt and mud and shaking me so that all that gunk could fall up off me. Oftentimes, distractions are sent so that your focus will move from what is important to idle meddling and thinking.
When you really look around in that day, after pondering all day in your thoughts..did you really get anything accomplished? It could be that there was something on that day that you were supposed to do or someone you were supposed to meet or a project idea that you were supposed to start.
God has laid before you so many opportunities, ways out, ideas, divine strategy. Do not get distracted now. Stay the course. Don’t even let people distract you, “I’m reminded of the verse in Matthew, 10:14, ”And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.”
Begin to ask God to realign you to His plan and purpose for your life. Ask Him for His wisdom in navigating your assignment. Cast the burdens on Him, loose yourself from anxiousness and heaviness, and allow His freedom and love and mind to be upon you.
Practical ways that have helped me while staying focused on my goals and life are:
Plan: Planning my day the night before, even if you are typing in the “notes” app on your phone. Have an outline of what you want your day to look like and the things that you want to accomplish and do.
Disconnect Turn on Do Not Disturb function in your phone. I do believe there is a way to customize an alert or you can set settings to allow certain people’s calls to still come through. It’s good to disconnect to be present and pour into yourself especially if you spend a lot of time on your phone. In this time, you can do something that fills your cup and makes you happy or you can even start on that idea that you’ve been procrastinating on.
Mediate: Spend time listening to your favorite worship music, meditating on the word of God allowing his word and presence to permeate your atmosphere.
Vision Session: Spend time creating a vision board, gather pictures of your goals and things that you want to accomplish this month or even in the coming year. If you decide to do this, you can also use Pinterest and label the board what you want to see manifest in your life.
Despite what may be going on around you, still show up in obedience, shake off the distractions, the loud noise, the aimless thinking and walk into what God has for you. Know that He will restore your joy, He will be with you, and He will strengthen you. I hope that this has encouraged you today.
