I was minding my business, and I was presented with an interesting statement layered with being full of pride. Instead of getting offended, I asked the person to help me discover what they were referring to. At that moment, I realized that oftentimes people who have experienced emotional or physical trauma, and have not healed and made whole are the most closed off or the ones quick to take offense. You will see that people who know their identity in Christ and have been made free are more open. Their spirit is more open to others, they make themselves friendly. I was driving home at this point realizing this revelation. I began to ask the Holy Spirit to teach me how to overcome pride, and I was given the following scriptures.
The NUMBER ONE way to fight pride is to humble yourself before God, to honor your brother and sister, to walk in love.
The definition of humble is to place under, to be subdued, brought low under subjection.
The word in 2 Chronicles 7:14 states, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” As children of God, it is important for us to humble ourselves before God.
The NUMBER TWO way to fight pride is to forgive, to forgive yourself and to forgive those who persecute and despitefully use you.
The word in Matthew 18:21, “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, until seven times: but, until seventy times seven.”
The NUMBER THREE way to fight pride is to confess your sins. Confess to God that you have walked in pride and un-forgiveness. God will blot out your transgressions and cleanse and purify your heart.
The word in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
